Internal Affairs Guide
Welcome to the Internal Affairs division!
As an IA member, your duties include monitoring internal activity across HIA's 3 platforms; Base, Portal, and Discord.
You are responsible for looking out for any suspicious/illicit activities and reporting them to higher ranks or Legal Affairs.
You should issue appropriate disciplinaries if you witness behaviour that breaches the Code of Conduct, which applies to all official HIA platforms.
You can review the Disciplinary Actions Guide to refresh your knowledge on handling disciplinaries and taking evidence.
IA Members are able to…
Portal Monitoring
A big part of your duties include monitoring Portal to ensure promotions are being logged correctly.
There are three types of promotion violations that you may come across:
✘ Promotion Spamming
- Logging promotions more often than every 5 minutes
✘ Promotion Camping
- Standing near the member they want to promote while the member is still attending to someone
- Standing in the hallway or filling the same station as the member they would like to promote
✘ Promotion for the sake of promoting
- Promoting a member who has just exited FTB or filled the station for less than 5 minutes
- Promoting a member who is AFK or hasn't been actively working
What to do if you notice a Promotion error:
Base Monitoring
Base monitoring involves overlooking the activity and behaviour of our members in base. In addition to Code of Conduct breaches, you may encounter more serious situations such as mafia activity or bullying.
Note: Please refer to the Internet Safety Guide or EA Guide for more information on how to identify mafia-related activity.
If you witness bullying, harassment, or anything that violates our Bully Policy, you should gather evidence and report it to Legal Affairs or submit the LA Complaints Form. Do reassure the member and try your best to make sure that the situation does not persist.
If you are unsure about a situation, you can contact an Elective with the evidence so that they can further assess and take care of the situation.
Discord Monitoring
Discord is our official communication platform for announcements, discussions and friendly chatting with fellow HIA members.
It is important that our members' behaviour abides by the Code of Conduct, the Discord Rules and Guidelines, and all other HIA policies at all times.
If you have any concerns about someone or their behaviour, feel free to message them directly or contact a Discord Admin. If they continue after being asked to stop, it may lead to a temporary ban from the server and/or disciplinary action (depending on the severity).

IA Exam Task
In order to be promoted into the next division, you must pass the mandatory IA Exam Task with a score of 75% or higher.
1. The task is linked above or can be found in your IA welcome message.
2. Read through and follow the instructions carefully.
3. Once you have submitted the task, please make sure you tag @IA Leaders in the #requests channel on Discord so your task can be graded.
This guide has been created to help you in your IA Exam Task, it is your job to take this information to answer the questions. Please do not copy your answers directly from the guide and use your own words.

IA Members are able to…
- Apply for the Transfer Unit & the Mentor Unit.
- Promote members up to the rank of Complaints Handler.
- Receive a promotion every 6 hours.

What to do if you notice a Promotion error:
- Please inform the member of their mistake.
- A Portal Admin should be contacted to remove any incorrect promotion logs on Portal.
- In most cases, approaching the member to remind them of their error (and monitoring to prevent it from happening again) will be enough.
- If their behaviour continues, you may need to enforce the disciplinary system (verbal warning, logging formal disciplinaries).
- If you have suspicions about someone with sufficient evidence, inform an Elective or LA member (depending on the severity of the situation).
